Yes, it is perfectly alright to wash pillows in washing machine. Try to wash 2-3 pillows at a time so that the pillows stay in place and not just roll around in the machine. Add a cup/scoop of your regular washing detergent  to the washing machine. If you want your pillows to be whiter and smell fresh, add 1 cup of powdered dishwasher detergent, 1 cup of vinegar, and ½ a cup of baking soda. To add some freshness and prevent/ kill mould and bacterial growth, you may add few drops of tea tree oil or lavender essential oil to the load. Start the washing cycle and run it on hot water. Dry them in the drier and you are done. You may also dry the pillows under sunlight (not very harsh or in shade)

WASHING WITH MESH

Now-a-days, fancy pillows are used on the sofa, chairs, on the bed and cars. They can be feathery, embroidered and with unique print. Even if you do not use these pillows while sleeping, they can get dusty and cause allergies from dust mites. Such pillows can be filled in a mesh bag and then put in the washing machine load. Start the cycle in hot water followed by the drying cycle. You may remove the mesh before starting the drying cycle so the pillows separate out and don’t stick to each other, making drying easy and quick.
