I always prefer t-shirts over anything since they are very comfortable. If your t-shirts are starting to feel a little stiff or if you just want to make sure that they never end up feeling that way, you can use salt to make or keep them soft.
Below are several ways you can use salt to soften your t-shirt:
SALT BATH – Fill a bucket with 1 quart of water and 1/2 cup of salt. Submerge the shirt in the water and let it sit in the saltwater for 2 days. After 2 days, wash it as you normally would. When you’re done, your stiff new shirt will magically be as soft as your favourite vintage t-shirt.
SALT AND VINEGAR – You can add about a cup of vinegar mixed with 3 tablespoons of salt to the rinse cycle for top loading machines, or 1/4 cup for front-loading. You can even add this to the fabric softener tray if you have one.
COFFEE AND SALT – This trick can be used to keep your dark clothes soft and new looking. Mix 1 cup black coffee with 2 tablespoons of salt. Add 2 cups of this to the rinse cycle.
