T-shirts are so popular because they are comfortable, easy to wear and are likely one of the softest items of clothing you own. If your t-shirts are starting to feel a little stiff or if you just want to make sure that they never end up feeling that way, there are several ways to take care of it and ensure a softer t-shirt. Here are some ways to make your tshirt soft:

Fill a bucket with 1 quart of water and 1/2 cup of salt. Submerge the shirt in the water and let it sit in the salt water for three days. After three days, wash it as you normally would. When you’re done, your stiff new shirt will magically be as soft as your favourite vintage t-shirt.

If your clothes aren’t getting softener, it may the water itself that needs softened. If you have hard water, it can take a serious toll on your clothing every time it’s washed. To soften the water, add a little bit of vinegar into the washer during the rinse cycle. You may also use two rinse cycles when washing clothes to ensure that all of the soap has been removed and to make sure that the vinegar is having an impact on the t-shirts.

If you want to soften really stiff t-shirts, dip it in water and squeeze several times- maybe 5-6 times. Finally squeeze it and tie it in squeezing position using a thread and put it in washing machine. Let it be in for 3-4 washes and make sure you add a fabric softener in every cycle. Finally, remove the thread and air dry your t-shirt.

Caution: do not attempt this for dark coloured t-shirts or those who are prone to lint.
