Hair washing has taken different ways and turns. Gone are the days when people would use commercial shampoos and that is it! Now we all lookout for natural alternatives for hair washing. After using milk, honey, shikakai, apple cider vinegar, baking soda etc. now it’s time for using clays! Clays are long known for skin and oral benefits. Just as with skin, clays work wonders for hair too. How about a clay cleansing shampoo? Here are some benefits of using clay for hair along with few hair cleansing clay shampoo recipes:

To make this cleansing clay aloe shampoo, you need 1 cup aloe vera gel, 1 cup bentonite clay powder and ½ teaspoon jojoba oil.

To make and use, mix the aloe vera gel and clay powder in a jar. Give it a good stir and make sure they incorporate well with each other to form a thick spreadable paste. Now add jojoba oil to it and mix again thoroughly. Wet your hair, take a spoonful of this mixture and massage on the scalp. Massage the scalp and hair both and keep it for 5 minutes. Wash off using cold water.

Note: adjust the quantity according to the length of your hair.


To make this cleansing clay honey shampoo, you need 6 teaspoons bentonite or kaolin clay, ½ cup of water and 3 tablespoons of honey.

To make and use, take a bowl and add bentonite or kaolin clay to it. Pour water little by little to it to make a thick spreadable paste. Now add honey to it and mix it well using a spoon. Once the paste/shampoo is ready, you may use it on wet hair. Wet your hair and apply the clay shampoo all over the scalp and hair. Massage for some time and keep it for 5 minutes. Wash off with cool water and air dry.
