There are high chances that you can still smell the synthetic fabric softener fragrance from your fabrics the next day and they feel starchy too! Commercially available fabric softeners soften your clothes initially only to make them stiff later! Does this ever happen to you? Pus, commercially available fabric softeners contains a lot of fragrance, toxic compounds and what not. Baking soda is an all-rounder ingredient that can be used in your beauty, health and around the house. It does make a great fabric softener. Below is how you could make a fabric softener using baking soda:
Recipe 1: Take 2 cup of Epson salt and add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil and mix it well. Take 1/2 cup of baking soda alternately and add it separate, which works well. After mixing all the ingredients together store it in an air tight jar and use 2-3 tablespoon and toss in with your cloths before rinsing.
Recipe 2: This is the easiest trick! Take 500 mL of water and add in 1 cup of baking soda. Let it dissolve and add in few drops of your favorite essential oil. If baking soda does not dissolve (this is because the water is saturated), add in more water. Pour this into water bucket and soak your washed clothes in it for 30 minutes.
Recipe 3: In a bowl, take 2 cups of baking soda and add in 1 cup of hair conditioner. Add in some water to make a thick paste. Now, pour this paste into ice cube trays or any moulds that you might have. Press them into the mould thoroughly and let it dry for few days. To use, grab one or two balls of this mixture and toss it into lukewarm water. Once it dissolves, soak your clothes in it for 30 minutes.
