For some, laundry is one of the few housekeeping tasks that is completed regularly. The routine of the chore- sort, load, dry, fold, put away keeps it manageable, and stacks of fresh clothes provide a tangible result. If your detergent seems to be just scraping by, your whites never come out quite as white, or you’re breaking your wallet just to get things starched at the dry cleaners, it’s understandable that you hate laundry day. But the days of tedious laundry are over. I have got few tricks to boost your laundry detergent without doing much!
- Adding 1/2 cup baking soda to your usual amount of liquid laundry detergent really will give you “whiter whites” and brighter colours. The baking soda also softens the water, so you can actually use less detergent.
- Smelly gym socks are often full of bacteria and fungi that may not all come out in the wash unless you add a cup of alcohol-based, sugarless mouthwash during the regular wash cycle.
- In areas with hard water, clothes may end up dingy despite efforts to increase the effectiveness of detergent. Try boosters, such as borax, and washing items in the hottest water that is safe for the type of laundry.
- A cup of vinegar will keep your clothes coming out of the wash soft and smelling fresh so you can kiss your fabric-softening liquids and sheets good-bye!!
