We always wash our fruits and vegetables before consuming! Thanks to all the unacceptable stuff on it. As the standard consciousness shifts into the “Green Era”, our focus turns towards removing pesticides, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s), and other unwanted chemicals from our diets by choosing organic and GMO-free options whenever possible. Whether you buy organic food or wash your veggies and fruits, you cannot be sure that the food that just passed your oesophagus is safe! Here is a recipe for homemade vegetable and fruit cleaner that will make your fruits and veggies totally safe to eat:
- Pretty cheap
- Easy to make
- Safe to be consumed
- Can be used on-the-go
- Antimicrobial activity kills surface germs
Things you need:
- 1 cup cold filtered water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ cup white distilled vinegar
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons salt
Combine all the ingredients together and give it a good shake till the solution appears clear. You may use this as a vegetable soak or spray, whatever you find easy. If you are using this as a spray, liberally spray it on the fruits or veggies and wipe off using clean tissue or wash under cold water if you hate the mild sour taste. For soak, put the fruits/veggies in solution for 5-10 minutes and then wipe off or wash under cold water.
Note: You may also add grapefruit seed extract to the solution, a known antioxidant with possible antimicrobial properties. Shake everything together in a spray bottle once again, and apply, let sit, and rinse!
