If not cleaned and maintained properly, cutting boards can hold harmful bacteria. So, here are easy natural ways to clean, disinfect and sanitize your cutting board.
Clean plastic cutting boards, scrub it with a paste made using equal parts of baking soda, salt, and water. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and then air dry.
Disinfect wooden cutting boards, Spread some baking soda over it and then spray on undiluted white vinegar. Let it foam for five minutes and rinse off. The acetic acid in the vinegar is a good disinfectant. Never use water and dishwashing detergent, because it can weaken the wood.
Sanitize: Reduce cutting board odors by rubbing it with lemons. Cut a lemon in half, dip it into some salt and scrub your board before rinsing with cold water.
To prolong the life of your cutting board, oil it every so often with mineral oil.
